How to group tools in a toolkit and assign it to your agents

Bundle HTTP tools and MCP servers into a toolkit, choose which agents use it, and manage it from the toolkit or from each agent.

Last updated 20 days ago

A toolkit groups HTTP tools and MCP servers into one package. Instead of assigning the same tools one by one to every agent, you assign the toolkit, and each agent gets all its tools. When you make changes in the toolkit, every agent that uses it gets the change.

Before you start: Create the HTTP tools or MCP servers you want to group. See How to connect your agent to other systems with an HTTP tool.

Step 1: Open Toolkits

In the left menu, open Agents, then Custom Tools, and select the Toolkits tab. You'll see your toolkits, which ones are active, and how many tools and servers each one has.

Step 2: Create the toolkit

Click Create Toolkit and fill in:

  • Toolkit Name and Description: what the toolkit is for, for example "Clinic scheduling".

  • HTTP Tools and MCP Servers: open each section, search, and click the ones to include. A check marks the selected ones.

Click Create Toolkit.

Step 3: Choose which agents use it

Click the toolkit to open it. In Overview, under Assigned Agents, click the agents that should use it, and click Save changes.

Important: Nothing changes until you click Save changes.

Step 4: Add or remove tools later

In the toolkit, open HTTP Tools or MCP Servers. Each one has a button to add it to the toolkit (Assign) or remove it (Unassign). To create a new one directly inside the toolkit, click Create & Assign HTTP Tool or Create & Assign MCP Server.

Or choose the toolkits from the agent

You can also do it from each agent. Open the agent, then Integrations › Custom Tools › Toolkits. Click the toolkits this agent should use and click Save changes. The counter shows how many you've selected.

Turn a toolkit on or off

The switch on each toolkit card turns it on or off for every agent that uses it. An inactive toolkit stays assigned, but its tools aren't used until you turn it on again.

Technical reference

  • What tools does an agent use: the ones assigned directly to it, plus the tools of every active toolkit assigned to it.

  • One tool, several toolkits: the same HTTP tool or MCP server can be in more than one toolkit.

  • Unique names: two tools used by the same agent can't have the same name, whether they are assigned directly or from toolkits.

  • If an MCP server fails: the agent follows its instructions, using the rest of its tools.

  • Inside the tool: each tool keeps its own settings and its own switch. Turning off a tool turns it off in every toolkit that has it.

Common problems

  • Check that the toolkit is Active.

  • Check that the agent is selected in Assigned Agents, or that the toolkit is assigned in the agent's Toolkits tab, and that you clicked Save changes.

  • Check that each tool included active, and that the agent's prompt or the tool's Prompt Instructions indicate when to use it.

Changes in Overview and in the agent's Toolkits tab are applied only after Save changes.

Done

Your agents now share tools through the toolkit. Test each agent in Test Agent after you change a toolkit.
